Postal Voting from July 13

Postal voting for the August 5 General Elections will be held on July 13, 14, 15 and 16, Election Commission sources said yesterday.

However, any public servant who is unable to cast the vote on these dates will be able to cast the postal vote on July 20 and 21 at the respective District Secretariats. This year, around 15,000 health employees who will be on duty at the polling stations in view of the Coronavirus pandemic will also be eligible for casting postal votes, in addition to other public servants and Police personnel.

Several health guidelines have been announced for postal voting. Among the measures are: physical distancing of one meter from each person inside the room; All officers and voters should wear masks; All voters shall wash or sanitize their hands before entering the voting place; Voters shall be encouraged to use their own pen or pencil for marking the vote; Voting cubicle shall be sanitized every hour; Voters who have fever with or without respiratory symptoms should be allowed to vote at the end of the session; All above instructions be communicated to all voters before starting the postal voting session and also displayed onsite; Responsible officers shall be appointed to supervise the health measures during the whole process of postal voting.
