The failure of previous governments to recognise women’s role in the country’s development has been a major reason for its economic deterioration. To tackle this issue, the present government has launched several projects aimed at strengthening the female work force, former State Minister Lakshman Wasantha Perera said.

He said so at a seminar to raise awareness on the matter, which was held recently at Galapaula, Galewela.

“At present, many public representatives are using their political powers for selfish reasons. This is, by no means, moral. A public representative should be someone who works for the people,” Perera said.

“Certain politicians have tricked the public into thinking that they are their representatives, however, they won’t be allowed to stay in their seats for long,” he added.

“People should be cautious when dealing with such people, as their future, as well as that of the younger generations, depend on it. Today, our nation has a strong leadership. Therefore, we all can expect a prosperous future,” the former state minister said.
