Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand, Samantha K. Jayasuriya, has called on Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai to discuss ways to consolidate bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries. This was mentioned in a press release issued by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Thailand, recently.

Both Sri Lanka and Thailand have facilitated the repatriation of their citizens stranded in either country due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the statement said; adding that both countries, through prevention measures and efficient responses from their respective health sectors, have contained the spread of the virus with low mortality rates.

As the two countries are looking forward to revitalising their economies, tourism, and normal livelihoods, the Foreign Minister and Ambassador assured close cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral relations, the press release said.

It also said that they discussed the next Joint Political Consultations between the two countries, Sri Lanka’s submission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP); as well as the next Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit, which Sri Lanka is scheduled to host as the current Chair, during which the stewardship of this regional group that bridges South Asia and South East Asia, will be handed over to Thailand.

The ambassador was accompanied by Head of Chancery, Poornima Gunasekera; Counsellor (Commerce) Anil Sirimanna; and Second Secretary Saritha Ranatunga.

Foreign Ministry Deputy Director-General Madam Dao Vibulpanich, Chief-of-Staff Prapenpim Prachonpachanuk, Director Cheevindh Nathalang, and Sri Lanka Desk Officer Ekavit Komonphaew accompanied the minister.
