Sandalwood selling racket busted

Four persons who have been engaging in a sandalwood selling racket for many months were arrested by Hambantota police along with 150 grams of sandalwood yesterday on the information furnished by the Hambantota Naval Camp Intelligence unit.

The suspects were arrested while they were loading the stock of sandalwood to a small lorry in Katuwewa, Hambantota. The load had been transported to Katuwewa from Ambalantota, police said.

The suspects, in the age group of 30-35, are residents of Welimada and Ambalantota, police said. The stock of sandalwood is worth over 12 lakhs, police said.

Hambantota police are investigating.
