An apple a day keeps the doctor away. But how much truth does this maxim hold? Well, there are a whole lot of benefits that one can derive out of this humble fruit.

Apples are rich in Vitamin A, B complex and vitamin C and minerals.  They are known to boost immunity, neutralise irritable bowel syndrome, detoxify your liver, avert hemorrhoids, help with weight loss, increase the endurance of your body, lead to whiter teeth, aid digestion, help with detoxification of the body and lead to better blood circulation. No side effects are generally known or expected to occur with apple fruit. However, apple seeds should not be eaten, as they contain cyanide and are poisonous. Eating large quantities of the seeds can cause death. There is however, hope here because chances that one will consume large amounts of apple seeds are relatively low. no side effects on the skin as much.

Home remedies which include apples

•Apple face mask for uneven skin tone

-1 tablespoon apple puree

-2 teaspoons thick yogurt

-1 teaspoon fresh orange juice

In a small bowl, mix the apple puree and thick yogurt. Add the orange juice (1 – 2 teaspoons) and mix again until everything is well combined.

Apply the mask to a clean face. Leave it on for around 20 minutes and during that time reapply the mask every time your skin absorbs it. Wash off and apply a face cream.

•Face mask with aloe vera and apple for skin brightening

-2 teaspoons apple puree

-1 tablespoon aloe vera gel

-1 teaspoon coconut oil

 Slightly warm up the oil and add the other two ingredients. Mix well until you get a smooth mixture.

Wash your face and exfoliate it with a gentle face scrub. Use a cotton ball to apply the mask. Leave it on for around 20 minutes and during that time reapply as needed. Wash off and apply a face moisturize

•Apple juice as a natural remedy for dandruff

Apple contains malic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid, which works as an exfoliant and emollient to remove dry dead skin covering the scalp. Regular treatment with apple juice will help remove  dandruff flakes, leaving you with a fresh clean scalp and hair.

Apple juice for soft and shiny hair

The acidity of the juice removes product buildup and other  residues from your hair. Apple juice also works by closing the cuticle (outer layer of the hair), giving your hair a smooth finish.
