Sri Lanka’s remaining match dates fixed

Asian Football Confederation after having consultations with FIFA has finalized the dates for the remaining three matches of the Preliminary Qualifying Round Two of World Cup 2022 to be played by Sri Lanka which were postponed due to the Covid - 19 pandemic. This decision was taken as the present situation of the pandemic has shown an easing condition throughout the world including Sri Lanka.

The three matches Sri Lana has to play are two games against DPR Korea home and away and the other with Lebanon in Lebanon. No sooner this was announced FFSL consulted the Ministry of Sports and Health Authorities for guidance to commence the training for the national pool in preparation for these games.

As these institutions have given the green light along with guidance to go ahead with training the FFSL has taken steps to commence training on June 22 at the Baddegana Training Center. The pool comprising of 18 players before the commencement of their training are to undergo a PCR test, said FFSL President Anura de Silva.

During the first stage of training Players will be at will undergo a seventeen day program under head coach, Bosnian born A. Alergie and will be released from residential training programme for four days to visit their parents before the second stage of training. None of these players will be allowed to leave the Center for any reason during the programme.

During their stay at the center they will be strictly checked for their fitness as well as the other medical checks adhering to Health Authority stipulated guide lines. At present the FFSL is renovating the Training Center according to specifications laid down by the Health Authorities for the safety of players.

President also said the Sports Ministry has informed to conduct the Annual General Meeting has to be conducted before August 31. At present FFSL is not in a position to fix a date for the AGM as the FFSL is awaiting the Annual Financial report from Auditors. No sooner the Report arrives to FFSL Ex-Co will meet to finalize the date for AGM, said de Silva.

Rescheduled dates for the three games are as follows:

* Thursday October 8 - DPR Korea vs Sri Lanka (Away Match)

* Tuesday October 13 - H5 Sri Lanka vs DPR Korea (Home Match)

* Thursday November 12 - Lebanon vs H5 Sri Lanka (Away Match)
