Sri Lanka’s premier Women’s cricketer Chamari Atapattu said that her ultimate goal is to win a top ICC Award before quitting from the game after an illustrious career.

The 30-year-old batting all-rounder received a tremendous morale booster when she became the only player to be retained in the ‘A’ Grade of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) central contract list announced on Tuesday.

With another stalwart Shashikala Siriwardene having already announced her retirement from international cricket in March this year, Atapattu remains as the most experienced player in the current set of players.

‘My immediate plans are to continue with the game for at least another two years. If my services are required further I would reconsider depending on my form’ she said yesterday.

‘I would also consult with my coaches and seniors when I should call it a day but I would like to quit from the game at a time when I am in good form’ said the veteran all-rounder.

‘I think I have plenty of cricket left behind me and my main target is to win the ICC Player-of-the-Year Award and to help Sri Lanka reach the final of a major global event,’ she emphasized.

The left-hand batter and the right-arm off-spinner is nearing a double landmark in her career having represented the country in 84 One Day Internationals and 85 Twenty 20 Internationals.

‘I would like to add a couple of more T20I centuries to my career and also to improve on my unbeaten 178 which I scored against Australia in 2017,” she revealed.

Atapattu is currently placed ninth in the ICC T20I Player Rankings for all-rounders and is placed 20th in the ODI Player Rankings for all-rounders.
