Construction of Int’l Financial City to start year end

The construction work of the International Financial City (Financial District) at the Colombo Port City will commence end of the year.

The management is awaiting approval of final documents from the government to commence construction. The proposed International Financial City would comprise four towers and there would be 45 floors.

The project developer China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), has also pledged USD 1 billion towards this project which will make it the biggest single FDI to Sri Lanka for 2019 and 2020.

The Financial District will also see many foreign multi nation companies moving their headquarters to it. “The manner in which Sri Lanka managed the Covid-19 epidemic has received global commendation. This is a major plus point to market Port city not only for corporate but also to citizens of other countries to live in Sri Lanka where health standard was proved to be very high,” an office from CHEC said. He said that they are expecting many corporates based in China, Singapore, Middle East and Hong Kong to move their operations to Sri Lanka.

The Port City will also have Sri Lanka’s only marina and we expect world’s richest tourists come here on their private yachts. There are also facilities in the marina for docking sailing boats and small boats providing sports and entertainment.

Deputy Project Director of Colombo Port City Bimal Prabhath Gonaduwage said that the construction of the Colombo Port City is on schedule. “Even during the Covid-19 Pandemic we did not stop work but too extra health precautions to carry on operations.”

He also said that workers were given safety equipment and regular tests were conducted to ensure that they were in good health.

Colombo Port City development will comprise of 5 different precincts including the Financial District, Central Park Living, Island Living, The Marina and the International Island.

When completed, the Port City Colombo will have over 5.6 million square meters of built space.

The Ports City will also be connecting to the International Airport at Katunayake through an elevated highway linking to the Airport Expressway. The Port Access Road will connect to the New Kelani Bridge at Ingurukade intersection and from there to the Colombo Port City will be constructed on pillars. From the Port city, the expressway will connect to the Marine Drive through an underground tunnel without interrupting the beauty of the Galle Face.

It is expected to complete the construction of the Port Access Elevated Highway in three years.
