Sri Lanka Rugby picks three squads for training

West Indies captain Jason Holder is being interviewed by the media before the team’s departure to England.

Sri Lanka Rugby has named three squads for the Sri Lanka Men’s XV, Men’s 7’s team and for the Women’s 7’s squad for future tournaments.

The Sri Lanka Men’s XV’s side which includes 49 players was set to participate in the Asia Division I Rugby championship in May which is now postponed. Asia Rugby is yet to decide on a date to re-schedule this tournament.

The three teams which have received green light from health authorities and Sports Ministry will start training soon.

Schoolboy Samuel Ogbebor from Wesley College who captained the school team has also been included for the national sevens training squad.

The Men’s fifteen’s squad players are: Jason Melder and Samuel Maduwantha, Imesh Appnso Charles Praveen, Lasitha Aththanagoda, Yakoob Ali, Damith Dissanayake, Mohamed Shabeer, Jason Dissanayaka, Tharindu Chathuranga, Buwanaka Udangamwa, Roshan Weerathtne, Nigel Ratwatte, Tarinda Ratwatte, Buddhima Piyarathana, Kavindu Perera, Dansha Dayan Shehan Pathiranan,Charana Chamikara, Azmeer Fajudeen, Umesh Madushan, Shawket Lahir, Dayan Sabar, Vimukthi Rahul, Theekshana Dissanayaka Faiz Abdulla, Danushka Edirisooriya, Lahiru Pavithra, Rasith Silva, Mohan Wimalarathne, Udara Sooriyapperuma, Wageesha Weerasinghe, Iroshan Silva Sachith Silva, Omalka Gunarathne, Rahul De Silva, Kalindu Nandila, Dinuk Amarasinghe, Reeza Rafaideen, Janidu Dilshan, Mursheed Zubair and Kavin Dixon, Danuka Wijethilake, Sudaraka Dikkumbura, Chameera Silva, Chamath Fernando and Ashan Bandara, Adeesha Weeratunga and Chathura Senavirathne

The provisional Men’s 7’s squad comprises: Sudam Sooriyaarachchi, Waren Weerakoon, Thuwan Suhail, Hinusha Sampath, Raveen Fernando Kavinda Keshan, Ravindu Hettiarachchi, Iroshan Silva, Sachith Silva, Sudharaka Dikkumbure, Adeesha Weerathunga, Chathura Seneviratne, Buddima Piyarathna, Danush Dayan, Jasan Dissanayaka, Kavindu Perera, Srinath Sooriyabandara Tharinda Ratwattwe, Dinuk Amerasinghe, Gamunu Chethiya, Janidu Dilshan, Kevin Dixon, Reeza Raffaideen, Omalka Gunaratne, Thulaib Hassen, Zubair Doray, Kalindu Nandila and Samuel Ogbebor.

Sri Lanka Women’s 7’s squad includes the following: Kanchana Kumary, Anusha Aththanayaka, Nimesha Sudarshani, Ayesha Perera, Charani Theekshana, Dilini Kanchana, Dulani Pallekondage, Shanika Dilani, Umayangana Thathsarani, Dasuni de Silva, Gayani Geethika, Sanjeewani Wijeethilaka, Nipuni Warshavithan, Randika Kumudumali, Samantha Jayamali, Kumari Dilrukshi, Sanjeewani Perera, Jeewanthi Gunaratna, and Anushika Thushari. School players in the squad are Hekashini Krishnakumar, Chamodya Madumali, Kavisha Perera and M. Madusha. (SS)
