Thondamans tussle for CWC leadership

A tussle has emerged within the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) after the death of its former leader Arumugam Thondaman.

The battle for the Party Leadership is now between his son Jeewan Thondaman and his nephew Senthil Thondaman, political sources told Daily News. One faction is of the opinion that Senthil Thondaman is the more experienced politician who has already served on the Central Provincial Council as a minister as well and is better suited to take over the leadership of the party. They also point out that Jeewan Thondaman has no political experience, not held any political office and is just 26. Others say that that son Jeewan Thondaman would be the ideal candidate to take over the leadership of the Party and he is the rightful heir to the party leadership.
