Rain forecast in southwestern SL

The showery condition over the southwestern part of the island is likely to enhance during the next few days, the Meteorology Department forecast yesterday.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, North Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall of above 75 mm are likely in the Western, North Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Wind speed can increase up to 40-50 kmph particularly in the western slope of the Central hills and Northern, North Central and North Western Provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Meanwhile, the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankasanturai and from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota can be rough. The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough.

Temporary strong gusty winds up to 70-80 kmph and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. The naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Winds will be southwesterly and wind speed will be 35-45 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmphin the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankasanturai and from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
