‘Government focused on solving post-COVID-19 tourism issues’

Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion & Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday that the government is focused on solving the problems faced by tourist bus owners, whose livelihoods have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Addressing a meeting held with representatives of the Lanka Tourist Bus Owners' Association, yesterday, the minister said that a set of proposals to address their issues would be submitted to Cabinet, shortly.

Representatives of the association stressed the difficulties they faced when they applied for leasing facilities under the relief measures announced by the government for those affected by the pandemic.

They said that they are also unable to pay off the leasing installments of their buses as their livelihoods have been adversely affected.

Minister Ranatunga, in response to their requests, said that the government would introduce a relief package for the people engaged in all tourism sub-sectors.
