AL students to get additional study time before exams

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, students in the country have lost around 300 study hours, Education Ministry Secretary N.H.M. Chitrananda told the Daily News.

Highlighting the G.C.E. (A.L.) syllabus, however, he said that students would be provided with additional hours to cover that lost time before their exams begin.

All schools are to be disinfected before they reopen, and a sum of Rs.338 million has been set aside for it, Chitrananda said. He added that Rs.200 million has already been provided to a number of schools.

There is a high chance of schools being reopened by the end of this month, the Secretary to the Education Ministry said, adding that afterwards, a date would be decided to hold the G.C.E. (A.L.) examinations and Grade 5 scholarship examinations. Chitrananda further said that around 367,278 candidates have qualified to sit for G.C.E.(A.L.) examinations, this year.

Meanwhile, Kurunegala District Senior Director of Education, W.M. Balasooriya, said that the two exams would most probably be held in September.
