Green light for 300 MW power plant in Puttalam

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to start the construction of a 300 MW power plant in Puttalam in order to meet the impending energy crisis of the future, Co-cabinet Spokesman, Information and Media, Technology, Higher Education, and Innovations Minister Dr Bandula Gunawardena said.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet Media Briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Minister Dr Gunawardena said Cabinet approval has been granted for the Chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board to reach relevant agreements.

The Minister charged that the previous Yahapalana regime failed to implement any mega electricity generation project. As a result, Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and the experts in the field of power and energy have predicted a possible power crisis in the future.
