Love for Nature part of Buddhist ethos - PM

Sri Lanka could control the global pandemic COVID 19 within the country as all worked in unison while observing the rituals based on the doctrine of Lord Buddha which was introduced to on Poson Full Moon Poya Day 2328 years ago, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

The Prime Minister made this observation in his Poson Full Moon Poya Day message.

The message: Buddhism embraced by the king Devanampiyatissa spread across every nook and corner of the country within a short period of time. Hence the country was enlightened with the philosophy of the truth enabling it to become a disciplined country with a pure culture. As a result the country was bestowed with great leaders and warriors who brought the country under one wing, great sculptors who could depict Metta, Karuna and state of intense concentration in the rocks in the forests and poets and artists who composed the beauty of the environment.

The World Environment Day also falls on the Poson Full Moon Poya Day. Sri Lanka became an incomparable nation that loves the environment due to this greatest philosophy that imparted into our ancestors.

However the COVID 19 pandemic urges the world to rethink of its practices as the world has betrayed the environment.

We have to act in accordance with the instructions of the Health and Security sectors for another short period of time. My belief is that as a nation and a country, we would be able to defeat the plague. Hence let us commit to defeat the plague with the expressing Metta and Karuna to all.”
