Dengue infects 19,940, kills 22

Dengue has infected 19,940 and killed over 22 persons in this year so far, Epidemiology Unit sources said.

Mosquito breeding sites should be cleaned regularly and at least 30 minutes per week should be allocated to clean surrounding and inside of residences and other locations. Dengue mosquitoes are rampant at construction sites and therefore, those places should be cleaned regularly.

The Western Province has recorded the highest number of dengue cases (5,535) this year so far. Pregnant mothers have been advised to get admitted to a hospital on the first day they suffer from fever. The public should seek treatment for any type of fever within two days without applying domestic remedies. Fever patients need rest and should not attend work or school.

They should not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac Sodium, Mefenamic Acid but paracetamol. Steroids such as Prednisolone, Methyl-Prednisolone and Dexamethasone should not be taken since they cause Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), they said.
