Decision to issue arrest warrant on former Welikada OIC today

The decision whether to issue an arrest warrant on former Welikada Police OIC ASP Sudath Asmadala for allegedly fabricating evidence in the 2016 Rajagiriya accident, will be delivered today (June 3) by Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranajana de Silva.

When the matter was taken up before the court, Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) pleaded to issue a warrant for arresting the former Welikada OIC for fabricating false evidence in the case filed against former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka for causing an accident.

Representing the Attorney General (AG), Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Dileepa Peiris informed Court that the former OIC had instructed two constables not to record the two eye-witnesses’ evidence stating that former Minister Ranawaka behind the wheel when the accident occurred.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris further stated that Attorney General Dappula De Livera directed the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) Director to obtain a warrant and arrest the former Welikada OIC for allegedly fabricating evidence in the Rajagiriya Accident Case of 2016. 

DSG Dileepa Peiris  informed the Magistrate that  former OIC Sudath Asmadala had committed offences under section 101, 113, 190, 198 and 215 of the Penal Code. “In 2016 and 2017 the Police had filed 16 further reports before Court but none of the report had mentioned the eye-witnesses’ statements,” DSG Peiris said.
