He has been associated in two century opening partnerships against Panadura and Jaffna Johnians. Kavindu is third placed in the Best All-rounder’s list in the division two tournament.

Kalutara Vidyalaya participating in the Sri Lanka Schools Under 19 Division Two Cricket Tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association has qualified for the quarter finals by beating Jaffna Johnians in the pre- quarters. In the one-day tournament they lost to Negombo Peterites.

This year the Vidyalians is captained by Prabhod Thamusha and with Hiruna Duleep as his deputy. They have won 5 matches outright, 6 on first innings, lost 1 and lost 2 on first innings and drawn 1. The experience of Kavindu is an asset to the team and to the present captain Prabodh in general. His coaches were Sunil Saluwadana, Rangana Silva, Romesh Silva, Buddhika Chandrashantha and presently Sanjeewa Warusamana. The Prefect of Games and Master in Charge is Walter Perera.

Kavindu commenced his cricket career at his alma mater in the under 13 team and played for 3 years. In 2014/15 he played for the under 15 team and while appearing in his second year he played in the Big Match, Battle of the Mangosteens with arch rivals Tissa Central. In 2016 and 2017 he played for the under 17 team and he was Vice Captain in all these three formats. So far he has played 4 Big Matches and captained the team last year.

Last season he scored 473 runs and claimed 74 wickets. He also played in 4 limited over matches. This year due to the corona virus their Big Match was postponed indefinitely.

Kavindu’s Principal Indika Perera and the Past Cricket Association are supportive at all times for this noble game at Kalutara Vidyalaya. Special mention should be made of former Principal Sarathchandra de Silva who helped in numerous ways for Vidyalaya cricket.
