Certification of residence for school admission ‘Avoid visiting NEC offices’

In order to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Election Commission (NEC) requests parents and guardians who wish to enrol their children into Grade 1 class of Government schools in 2021, to refrain from visiting district election offices to obtain certified copies of voters’ register, W.M. Balasooriya, Kurunegala District Senior Director of Education told the Daily News yesterday (1) at his office in Kurunegala.

District offices of the Election Commission countrywide have stopped issuing these certificates. Instead, parents and concerned parties are requested to obtain the required documents from their respective Grama Niladharies or the NEC’s official website www.elections.gov.lk.

“Parents have to submit a certificate to school heads for the admission of their children to Government schools, proving their residential address in the respective area for five years as per the Circular No. 2020/16 dated 25.05.2020 issued by the Education Ministry,” he said.
