Compulsory PCR tests for all arrivals at BIA

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday said the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19 infection have been be compulsory for all passengers arriving at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake from today (June 1).

He said if a COVID-19 infected person is found he or she will be hospitalized and others will be sent for quarantine.

Addressing the media in Udugampola today, the minister said these measures were taken following a decision taken by the Presidential Task Force appointed to control the Covid-19 pandemic.

The minister said the Katunayake airport was most likely to be open for tourist arrivals from early August.

He further said although the airport will be opened for tourists from August, all those arriving in the country would have to undergo the PCR test.

Meanwhile, the minister also said the government's efforts to repatriate all Sri Lankans stranded overseas will continue unabated.
