‘Personal protective equipment exempted from taxes’

Personal Protective Equipment; and similar products imported, supplied, and donated to the government to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the country; are exempted from all taxes and levies, Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told the Daily News.

Therefore, all such items provided to the Health Ministry, Health Services Department, the Tri-Forces, Police, and the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19, are also exempted of all taxes, he said.

However, taxes are to be imposed on export-oriented enterprises which have entered into agreements with the Board of Investment (BOI), as well those who wish to provide protective equipment to such institutions. These taxes are to be valid until December 31, the minister added.
