Tax exemption for PPEs, similar products

Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and similar products imported, supplied and donated to the government to address the COVID 19 pandemic in the country are exempted from all applicable taxes and levies, Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday.

Accordingly, such imports, supply and donations made to the Health and Indigenous Medical Services Ministry, Department of Health Services, the Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police, COVID Center (National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak) are exempted from all applicable taxes and levies including the Customs Duty, Ports and Airports Development Levy, the CESS and VAT.

Accordingly, export oriented enterprises which have entered into agreements with the BOI and supply and donate health protective equipment and similar products to the these institutions are eligible for this tax relief.

“These tax exemptions are valid till December 31, this year,” Minister Ranatunga said.

The Cabinet memorandum submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has been approved by the Cabinet recently. Minister Ranatunga has signed the Gazette notification as well.
