Fifty-member disaster relief team deployed in Panadura

A 50-member disaster relief team has been deployed in Panadura to handle possible emergency situations that may arise in the area, Panadura Police Senior Superintendent Sanjaya Irasinghe told the Daily News.  

The team comprises of police personnel from the Bandaragama, Panadura North, Panadura South, Wadduwa, Morontuduwa, Anguruwatota, Horana, Ingiriya, Moragahahena, and Millewa areas, Irasinghe said. He added that they have been given special training for the endeavour.  

“In the event of a natural disaster or emergency situation; such as floods, landslides, cyclones, and fires; this team should reach the site within 30 minutes and use their resources and skills to bring the situation under control and rescue the affected civilians,” Panadura Police Life Rescue Unit OIC M. Nimalsiri stated.
