Dewahuwa faces health facility shortage

‘Village hospital in poor condition’

Dewahuwa residents have complained that thousands of families are faced with a shortage of health facilities as the sole hospital in the area is in poor condition and can only function as a dispensary at present.

They said that not only them, but people in some of the surrounding villages depend on the same hospital as well. Moreover, the hospital's staff quarters have all collapsed, they said, adding that even the residence of a public health inspector living near the hospital had suffered the same.

Residents said that therefore, even health workers in the area are also facing difficulties as many of their accommodation facilities are currently unavailable. Dewahuwa is located between the Matale and Anuradhapura districts. People living in some of the villages that surround it also depend on the Dewahuwa Hospital.
