New schedule from June to bring down Sri Lankans

The flight which was temporarily delayed to bring down stranded Sri Lankans from Doha is expected to arrive today morning.

Former Navy Commander and the President’s senior advisor on foreign relations, Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage said yesterday that the flight was delayed due to the returnees from Kuwait suddenly testing positive for the Covid-19 virus, and because of this the flight on Monday (25) from Doha was delayed due to this reason”.

“No flights have been suspended, all travel arrangements and flight schedule for May will take place as scheduled.

On May (28) there is a flight from Belarus and on May (30) a flight will be arriving from Melbourne with some New Zealand passengers. These are students and temporary travellers”.

He added, “In the coming days there will be a slowdown of flights coming into the country, as the Director-General stated for a process is being done for June. The process to bring down stranded returnees is being re-evaluated for June. For May, we going ahead as scheduled. For June we are preparing a new schedule. The schedule is being prepared according to health authorities, the availability of quarantine centres and conducting PRC testing by health officials and also the treatment for the Covid-19 positive imported cases”.
