Flood alert for Ratnapura

The Ratnapura District Disaster Center (DDC) has issued a flood warning to people living in the low-lying areas of Ratnapura, Elapatha and Kiriella Divisional Secretariats due to the rise in the water level of Kalu Ganga within a few hours on Sunday (24) night.

Accordingly, the Ratnapura DDC had requested the public to be vigilant and immediately evacuate if signs of floods appeared.

The water level of Kalu Ganga was reported above 5.19 meters (17 feet) on Sunday by 8 pm. Within a few hours, the water level of Kalu Ganga had reached 11 feet and rains in the western slope of Sri Pada was the reason for the sudden rise in the water level, Irrigation Department sources revealed.
