Pujith's FR re-fixed for support on September 9

The Fundamental Rights petition filed by former Inspector General Pujith Jayasundara seeking an interim order suspending the President’s decision to send him on compulsory leave following the Easter Sunday bomb attacks was yesterday re-fixed for support on September 9 by the Supreme Court.

Jayasundara had sought an interim order suspending President’s decision to send him on compulsory leave following the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

Through this petition, the former IGP sought an interim order to suspend the appointment and confirmation by the President of Senior DIG C.D.Wickremaratne as the Acting Inspector General.

In his petition, Jayasundara cited Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police C. D.Wickremaratne Constitutional Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya, Constitutional Council members Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorala, R. Sampanthan, Javed Yusuf, N. Selvakkumaran, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Bimal Ratnayake, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, former State Intelligence Services Director DIG Nilantha Jayawardena,former Chief of National Intelligence Sisira Mendis, former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and thr Attorney General as respondents.

Senior counsel Viran Corea with counsel Niran Anketell and Dushinka Nelson appeared for the petitioner. Anuja Premaratne PC appeared for former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.
