Public Transport enabled across the country

All regional transport bodies in Provincial councils will be operational from today with Government safety guidelines to be followed in all journeys, Transport, Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told the “Daily News.”

“The passenger buses will operate among the districts excluding Colombo and Gampaha districts. Both private and public transport services will be available for the use of the public,” said Minister Amaraweera.

The bus services will operate inter –provincial and inter-regional routes. However, the public are advised to avoid all non-essential travel, he emphasized. .  

“The Sri Lanka Railways, too, has been enabled to run train services to Colombo under the protocol that it carries only those employees and others who have registered with the Sri Lanka Railways to report for essential work,” he said.

“Whoever is not registered will not be allowed to travel by train to Colombo until further notice,” the minister added.

According to Sri Lanka Railways sources, some 16, 600 people have registered with Sri Lanka Railways to travel to Colombo.
