COVID under control now - Health DG

The COVID-19 disease is under control in Sri Lanka and no patient has been reported from the general population except from the Navy cluster, Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.

He said the private sector cannot be given authority to conduct PCR Testing because of the possibility in losing control of the COVID-19 situation.

The private sector can be authorised to carry out PCR Tests under certain restrictions, Dr. Jasinghe said. If authorized to carry out the PCR Test, private hospitals should admit the patient to the hospital

 until the result of the PCR Test is given and also inform about the patient to the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit before and after performing the PCR Test. Dr. Jasinghe stressed that if they allow PCR Tests to be carried out similar to Full Blood Count (FBC) tests, a large sum of money could be wasted for no reason. One PCR Test costs the Government 20 US Dollars and it is a complicated test, he said
