Driver’s licence validity extended to July 31

The Passenger Transport Management Ministry yesterday extended the validity period of a driver’s licence expiring between April 16, 2020 and May 31, 2020 until July 31, 2020. The extraordinary gazette notification relevant to the extension of the validity period was issued yesterday (20).

The gazette notification numbered 2176/6 stated that the regulations have been made by the Passenger Transport Management Ministry under Section 237 read with Section 126 of the Motor Traffic Act (Chapter 203). It further said: “These regulations may be cited as the Motor Traffic (Temporary Extension of the Validity Period of Driving Licence) Regulations No. 2 of 2020 and shall be deemed to be valid and effective from April 16, 2020.

The validity period of every driving licence issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic under the Motor Traffic Act which expires within the period between April 16, 2020 and May 31, 2020 shall be extended till July 31, 2020.”

Previously, the validity period of a driver’s licence which was supposed to expire on April 31 was extended until May 31, due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. In consideration of the continuation of the situation, the validity of every driver’s licence that expires on May 31 has been extended up to July 31, 2020.
