Isolation wards for flu patients in Govt hospitals

The Government has paid its attention to setup isolation wards in Government hospitals to treat flu patients, Co-cabinet Spokesman Plantation Industries and Export Agriculture Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana said.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Minister Dr Pathirana said that during this week's meeting of Cabinet Ministers, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa highlighted the importance of setting up separate wards in Government hospitals to treat flu patients.

"Even though the country has been able to successfully control the COVID-19 disease when compared with the situation of other countries, it is clear that we have to live with the COVID-19 threat until a vaccine is invented. Considering this situation the Premier made such a proposal," Dr Pathirana added.

Dr Pathirana said that the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal made by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to implement a special project to construct quarters for health staff covering all the hospitals islandwide.

This project is scheduled to be implemented as a public private partnership project.

Another proposal made by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to upgrade facilities at Mulleriyawa Base Hospital has also been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and the Government allocated Rs 1.8 billion to set up basic facilities including an Intensive Care Unit, neonatal care units., etc.
