COVID-19 recoveries rise

The total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country has risen to 569 after 10 individuals who had contracted the virus recovered and were discharged from hospital yesterday, the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit said.

Meanwhile 28 Navy personnel at the Oluvil quarantine centre were tested positive for the virus yesterday following random PCR tests on May 18. The total number of cases stood at 1020 as of yesterday evening.

Five of the 10 who were discharged yesterday had been warded at the National Institute of Infectious Disease, two were at the Iranawila Hospital while another two others were discharged from the Homagama Base Hospital during the last 24 hours. Five of those who were discharged from the IDH hospital are navy personnel.The sailors had tested negative to COVID-19 on the random PCR tests conducted later. To-date 209 navy personnel have recovered from the virus.

There are however 442 active COVID-19 patients who are currently receiving treatment while 138 are currently under observation.
