Adverse weather claims two

A 29-year-old woman identified as W.A Nuwanthi and a nine-year-old boy Rashmin Sachintha died yesterday after they were buried alive under an earth embankment following days of torrential rains, the district secretariat confirmed. Both individuals are residents of Barenduwa and Wewelwatta in Alutpola.
 According to police in the area, another child in the Pallama area who was also swept away had survived after falling atop of a house, she has been admitted to the Ratnapura Teaching hospital for treatment. Many parts of Ratnapura and Balangoda continued to be battered by torrential rains while landslide alerts and flood warnings were given as water levels of the Kalu River continued to rise yesterday.
