Country’s power generation to be restored fully after curfew ends

A 50 percent reduction of Sri Lanka’s power generation is currently being carried out by the Ministry of Power and Energy after a careful study on the usage of electricity by the country’s small, medium and large scale goods and food manufacturing industries, economic zones, factories and other highly electricity consumption institutions.

Speaking to Daily News Finance Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said once the existing curfew is lifted and factories, industries and the other business enterprises commence its general work, the country’s power generation will be once again restored 100 percent. He said in addition even hotels, parks, arenas where people watch sports events and similar places are also not functioning at present after 8 pm due to the island-wide curfew.

“As we are aware even these institutions are also not using maximum electricity throughout the night and under such circumstances the Ministry is compelled to reduce power generation.”

Minister Amaraweera further said currently the Power and Energy Ministry obtain hydro power from Norochcholai power station.

The Minister further explained that even the production of crude oil in oil producing countries has already minimized their production due to the less demand by motor vehicle as well as large scale industrial sites and factories all over the world.
