Trishaw theft busted in Galle

Four suspects, including a married couple and two garage owners, who were allegedly engaged in a theft of three-wheelers were arrested by the Crime Investigation Unit of the Galle Police.

Four three-wheelers of which chassis and engine numbers had been altered at two separate garages in Akmeemana, Galle were also recovered. The suspects had removed the stickers on the three-wheelers and changed their number plates. Investigations revealed that the gang had occupied in the theft for long.

The Police initiated investigations into a complaint made by a person whose three-wheeler had been stolen while it was parked near Galle Mahamodara Teaching Maternity Hospital. He had visited his wife who had been admitted to the hospital for a childbirth. He noticed that his vehicle had been stolen when he returned after about an hour.

The Police had examined CCTV recordings of a nearby business premises and observed that the three-wheeler had been taken by a man and a woman. The respective couple was arrested and on interrogations of the suspects, more information on the theft had been recovered. The suspect garage owners disclosed that Rs. 80,000 had been paid for each stolen vehicle.

The stolen three-wheelers, altered chassis and engine numbers had been sent to the Government Analyst’s Department. The suspect man is a 25-year-old resident of Kadawatha while his 20-year-old wife is from Ganegoda in Akmeemana. The suspect garage owners are from Narawala and Thalgaswala, Akmeemana. 

The suspect couple was produced before the Galle Magistrate.
