Covid-19 relief program for Football Community by FFSL

The FIFA has taken a decision to allocate funds for all member Associations under FIFA Forward 2.0 program without any restriction.

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) is to receive all funds of 2019 and 2020 without any deductions based on Forward 2.0 regulations and FFSL are obliged to use these funds as per regulations.

On a request made by FFSL to FIFA for the approval to use USD 100,000 on COVID 19 Pandemic relief project these funds will be utilised to help affiliated Leagues, Clubs, Players, Referees, Coaches and Ex National players and Ex Referees who are in difficulties due to the present Covid-19 pandemic.

With the approval from FIFA with regard to COVID-19 pandemic relief program, FFSL will transfer funds to all affiliated and active leagues based on their participation in FFSL conducted events in 2019 or was eligible to participate based on their qualifications for events in 2019. The FFSL could not conduct a few major events due to the Easter bomb attacks last year and later due to adverse weather conditions.

“The FFSL will support leagues in two stages with the first fund release taking place on 12 or 13 May and the second stage by end of May or first week of June. We shall implement a criteria for fund allocation based on their participation in 2019 FA Cup as we insisted all leagues to conduct the 1st round within their League and to consider that as their knock-out tournament for 2019,” said an FFSL spokesman.

“Further, fund allocations will be done to all participated clubs in the 2018/19 Dialog Champions League and all clubs of Division I in 2018/19. The Leagues will receive between Rs.100,000 to 300,000 while 17 clubs in Dialog Champions League will receive Rs.300,000, Division I clubs will receive Rs. 150,000. The FFSL also will take steps to help former national players, coaches and referees. Women’s national pool and U19 National pool of 2019 too would be given grants to support their families.”

The FFSL will also make a donation towards the National COVID19 Fund as a kind gesture towards the public to battle this grave situation. Furthermore, it has requested approval from FIFA to release funds from FIFA Forward 2.0 to use it for stage II.
