279 persons leave quarantine centres

Yesterday, a group of 279 persons who had been quarantined at the Punani (94), Iranamadu (175) and Nipuna (10)  quarantine centres had been released after subjecting them to the PCR test, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said during the daily media briefing of the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19.

Accordingly, as of yesterday, a total of 7,391 persons had been quarantined at the Tri Forces run quarantine centres. Currently there are another 3,805 persons in quarantine at 30 tri forces run quarantine centres.

The Army Commander noted that on Sunday (10) 452 persons had returned to the country from Australia and Malaysia and they are currently in quarantine. He said that another batch of 479 Sri Lankans will be flown back to the country today (12) by Sri Lankan Airlines.

He also noted that while there are false reports that the Sri Lanka Navy has pulled out of active Covid-19 duties, on the contrary, the Navy is actively engaged in the Corona prevention operations.

Lt. Gen. Silva also noted that all heads of institutions have been briefed regarding the measures needed to be taken and the limited number of employees to be brought in to recommence their business operations and expressed hope that these guidelines and health directives will be strictly adhered to.

With the country gradually returning to normalcy, the Army Commander urged the public to maintain social distancing and follow the proper health and personal protection guidelines and cooperate with the Government’s efforts to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
