Met. Dept. warning: Rough seas, Strong Wind

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department today issued a heavy showers, strong winds and rough sea advisory valid for until tomorrow (12) for  sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota.

According to the Meteorology Department, due to the active cloudiness in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota, the possibility for heavy showers/thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above given shallow and deep sea areas is high.

Thus, the Meteorology Department requested the navel and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regards.

It also said that active clouds have formed in the Western, South-western, Southern and south-eastern sea areas and the active cloud is likely to persist further.
