Sale No. 17 catalogued 3.2 mn. Kgs

Sale No.  17 of the Colombo Tea Auction, which was a one day sale and  completed  on Saturday at noon,  sold only 3.2 mn. kilos due to the string of holidays,  Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC  said.

Both Low Growns  and High  Growns met with fair demand. Low Growns Select best BOP1 / OP1s lost out in value, whilst others held firm. Stylish OP /OPAs sold at lower rates, while others held firm.

 Asia Siyaka Commodities, Director and Senior Vice President  Sohan Samaranayake told the Daily News  Finance  that   Pekoe/ Pekoe1s  was appreciated in value. In the Tippy Small leaf catalogues FBOP1s held firm all-round. Select best FBOP/FBOPF1s were discounted; others held firm. FBOPFs met with last week’s levels.  BOP/BOPF1`s were marginally lower all-round.  In the Premium Flowery catalogues, long leaf and small leaf tippy teas met with good demand.

Demand was irregular tending lower for the Ex-Estates. Western BOP/BOPFs were lower by about Rs. 20 to Rs. 40 on quality. Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPFs were a dearer market. Udapussellawa BOP/BOPFs were lower by Rs. 20 to Rs. 30. Uva BOP/BOPFs were lower upto Rs. 40. Better Medium BOP/BOPFs were expensive by Rs. 20 to Rs. 40, whilst others were lower. CTC BP1/PF1s were irregularly lower upto Rs. 20.

 The next three auctions, which are sales 18, 19 and 20, are expected to hit an average of  5.3 mn. a kilo.

The quantities which have been  catalogued are  5.39 mn. kilos for sale No. 18,  5.34  mn. kilos for sale.
