Romanian factory fires 44 Lankans after 7 test positive for coronavirus

Forty-four Sri Lankan employees in a Romanian clothing factory in the Botosani, northern Romania was fired after seven of them had tested positive for COVID-19, the Romania Journal reported.
 
The local Labor Inspectorate has been notified and has commenced an inquiry.
 
The employer has told labour inspectors that the Sri Lankans had not reported to work over fears of being infected with the Coronavirus. He claimed that they were fired after they had refused to report to work.
 
Labour inspectors says, that the Sri Lankan employees have the same rights as their Romanian colleagues and probes are currently underway to see whether the layoffs were abusive.
