The officials involved in the payment of the grant of Rs. 5,000 to beneficiary families in the Anuradhapura District are perturbed due to the non-receipt of authoritative instructions for the month of May.

Anuradhapura District Samurdhi Development Director Anuradha Dissanayake told the Daily News that 1,200 Samurdhi development officers and Samurdhi managers are waiting for further instructions and funds to commence the Phase II of the distribution of Rs. 5,000 among those who are eligible in the district.

“Under the Phase I, we paid Rs. 1,070.09 million to 214,018 Samurdhi beneficiaries including those who were in the waiting list, self-employees and 3,600 people who submitted appeals,” Dissanayake said.

According to the Phase II revised list, 18,000 senior citizens, 10,000 CKD patients and 9,000 disabled persons are eligible to receive the grant. The estimated total amount required for the payment of Rs. 5,000 is Rs. 195 million. The District Social Services Department is making arrangements to implement this programme.
