The newly appointed Kandy Municipal Council Playground head G. G Dharmaratne assumed duties on Tuesday at Playground Headquarters at Katukelle.
He thanked the people who gave him the backing and the media for the support given for sports promotion in Kandy.
Dharmaratne is a grade officer who has served the department for the last 31 years. His main aim is to give the best for all sports. Today this council has 26 play grounds, where out door sport is played and 48 community centers where indoor sports take place.
The Mayor Kesara Senanayake, Opposition leader Sena Dissanayake, Commissioner Chandana Tennakoon and the rest are keen to give their best to promote sports.
The play grounds and the community centers have helped many sportsmen to do well, play for their schools for Kandy and for the country.
