Navy will continue anti-COVID operations - Spokesman

The Sri Lanka Navy refuted news reports that the Navy had decided to temporarily refrain from engaging in Covid-19 prevention activities due to a considerable number of Navy personnel testing positive.

Issuing a statement, Navy Spokesman Isuru Sooriyabandara noted that the Navy has not pulled out of any of its entrusted duties pertaining to the Covid-19 prevention duties and that they are fully engaged in these activities to the maximum, despite several Navy personnel being infected.

However, the Navy Spokesman said the Navy has notified the CID regarding this deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Navy and they will take legal action against media institutions and web sites that have published such false news.

Meanwhile, 343 Navy personnel have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus so far and out of the patients under treatment at Naval and national hospitals 12 have made a full recovery. Although these persons have been released from hospital, they will be further subjected to another 14-day quarantine period as a precautionary measure.
