GE2020: Final set of health guidelines not presented to EC

The Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry has not presented the final set of guidelines to the Election Commission (EC) in connection with holding the General Election. Only a draft has been presented, Deputy Director General (Environmental, Occupational Health and Food Safety) of the Health Ministry Dr. Lakshman Gamlath said.

According to Dr. Gamlath, certain media reports may mislead the public because they indirectly say that the final set of guidelines had been handed over to the Election Commission, which is not true. Only the draft had been handed over to the commission.

The draft only contains the basic requirements to hold the General Election and the final set of guidelines will be prepared after considering the proposals presented to the ministry. The final set of guidelines can be based and changed according to the time of holding the General Election and some other factors, he said.

The final set of formal guidelines will be formulated considering the recommendations of the Health Services Director General, other top health officials, experts in various fields etc. The final formal set of guidelines will be handed over to the Election Commission soon, he added.
