2,300 SLTB buses in operation

Nearly 2300 buses attached to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) are in operation currently in areas where the curfew has been lifted.

Spokesman from the SLTB told the Daily News that these service are being implemented only within the districts and bus services between districts are still prohibited even though the curfew has been lifted.

Bus crew constantly monitored whether that commuters used to sit in a zigzag pattern in buses and most of the commuters were the private and state sector office workers," he added.

However, further discussions are on with health authorities to ascertain whether the buses can carry passengers based on the seats available.

“Even though, SLTB buses have been deployed for passenger transport in areas where curfew has been lifted, buses are only in operation to transport personnel attached to essential services in Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalm and Kalutara where curfew is being strictly enforced," he said.
