Educational institutions warned of dengue threat

The Education Ministry urges authorities of education institutes such as schools, Pirivens, higher education institutes and teacher education colleges, which closed following the Covid 19 outbreak, to pay utmost attention on cleanliness when reopening as there will be a threat of spreading dengue fever.

All the education and higher education institutes including all schools and universities remain closed following the Covid 19 outbreak. Therefore the Education Ministry urges relevant authorities of these education institutes to carry out proper cleaning programmes prior to commencement.

The cleaning process should ascertain that there won’t be dengue breeding grounds in those education premises.

The education Ministry further advises to the authorities to use non-academic staff when carrying out cleaning programmes in every institute. Besides, it is advised to get the assistance of school development societies and past pupils associations in this cleaning process.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has instructed zonal and provincial education directors to follow the guidelines implemented by health authorities and security personnel in the fight against Covid 19.
