Eye Hospital halts normal OPD services

The National Eye Hospital in Colombo has decided to carry out only the services for accident victims and emergency eye issues until the COVID-19 situation improves, National Eye Hospital Director Dr. W. L. L. U. C. Kumarathilaka said.

According to the Director Dr. Kumarathilaka, all eye patients can call 0112693911 and obtain details about visiting clinics and obtaining medicine. The public can call 0113318678 to obtain any advice on any eye problem. The public will be notified through media when the normal OPD services and clinical services re-commence.

The emergency service of the National Eye Hospital and the Eye Units of all the other main state hospitals are available in 24 hours. Emergency eye treatment is also available in all units during 24 hours, she said.

The decision was made considering the heart-of-the-city location of the National Eye Hospital and the limited space available in the hospital premises which does not allow eye patients to keep the minimum distance of one meter between two people, she added.
