Jaffna authorities send back stranded outsiders

Jaffna Government Agent K. Mahesan stated that 2000 persons who had arrived at the Jaffna Peninsula from various parts of the country regarding work and personal matters were sent back to their respective places after clearing medical protocol.

At a recent press briefing he added that 2000 out of 5,000 persons have returned to their native places. The rest are been kept for medical examination before being allowed to leave Jaffna.

"We are gradually sending persons who are stranded, once all the medical process and other protocols are completed".

In the past few months 5000 people have come to Jaffna for various reasons and these people were stranded due to the curfew imposed to combat Covid-19 virus.

"Many had appealed to be sent back as soon as possible, but authorities insisted that every protocol should be followed before they could be sent home. The authorities cleared 2000 persons" .

Mahesan pointed out that those from high risk places will not be sent immediately until the situation is under control in their native places.
