Two PCR machines from IAEA to Health Ministry

Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera handed over two PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) machines worth Rs. 23 million to Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the machines had been provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) following a request made by the Atomic Energy Council of Sri Lanka which is under the Power and Energy Ministry. Health Ministry will provide the two machines to two state hospitals considering the demand for COVID-19 testing. The machines will be installed shortly and start testing, he said.

Minister Wanniarachchi thanked the International Atomic Energy Agency for the assistance. Minister Amaraweera stated that the machines were provided considering the high demand for COVID-19 testing in the country at the moment.
