First local ventilator launched

The first locally manufactured ventilator which is very significant in treating COVID 19 affected patients was presented to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.

Consumer Affairs Authority directors Thushan Gunawardena, Viraj Perera and Electronics Engineer Chamika Gamage presented their product to the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s official residence. The Prime Minister instructed them to manufacture 200 units as soon as possible.

A unit could be manufactured at a cost between Rs 15,000 and Rs18,000 and is user-friendly. It could be used easily in an ambulance or even in a motor car. It can function for seven hours with two 12 V batteries.

The manufacturers pointed out that a group of 10 could manufacture 100 such units a day. They said Dr Anuruddha Padeniya too assisted them in making this machine.
